I will confess, I’m only a half-hearted believer in the idea that there is a place we are meant to be, and something we are meant to do.  In general, I’m a pretty pragmatic person, trying to stay focused on putting one foot in front of the other one, until I achieve my goals.

That said.

I have had several signs over the last few days that now is my time to be submitting my work to competitions and really trying to kick in the door of the business.  I won’t list the signs, because that sort of thing is all perception anyway, and maybe it has more to do with the fact that I was looking for a sign in this direction (see what I mean about pragmatic?), but the point is…. I’m listening.  I’m paying attention.  It doesn’t hurt that I got shortlisted for the first thing I’ve submitted to in umpteen years.  That made me feel pretty sweet.

So, I am officially starting a year of submissions.  Today I submitted one of my pilots to the Script Pipeline TV Writing Contest, and I made a schedule for myself of all the competitions I want to enter.  Today’s was a final deadline, but I’m going to try to make the early entry deadlines when possible.  I don’t know if I’ll be able to afford to enter all of them (those fees add up!) but I am going to try, especially the ones that give feedback.  Because feedback is worth its weight in gold.

I’ve been on this same career path for such a long time, but I keep taking side trips so many times between having to make a living, to having family responsibilities and priorities.  All the time, though, I kept writing.  And my writing has become more seasoned, more thoughtful.  I am curious and eager now to see what the world thinks of what I’ve been up to.
